WCMS Students Involved With Community Garden

WCMS and Sam-X at the Georgia Captol

WCMS students have been involved in the Village Community Gardens, Sylvester, GA for several years.  Sam-X, organizer and manager of the garden has supported WCSD students by offering opportunities for hands-on learning of agriculture and community involvement awareness.  Recently, WCMS garden leaders visited the gardens to support their STEAM education. At a later date, they traveled to Atlanta to support Sam-X in being awarded a resolution in recognition of his work with the gardens and community and our students.

During a recent visit to the Village Community Gardens, WCMS garden leaders helped paint beehives and purple martin gourds.  They pruned muscadine vines and harvested broccoli.  These types of skills reinforce student inquiry, communication, critical thinking, and combines art, science, and math in relatable hands-on application.  To view photos from this visit, click HERE.

A week after this visit, WCMS garden leaders traveled to Atlanta to support Sam-X as a Resolution was presented commending his work at the Village Community Gardens. House Resolution 1065 recognized the co-founders of the Gardens for their consistent record of service to the community and the state.  To read the complete Resolution 1065, click HERE.
