Students Complete a Secret Mission civil rights - tomlinson

Students in Mrs. Tomlinson's 5th grade social studies class have been studying the civil rights movement.  To further understanding, students participated in an "escape room" activity where they had to decode clues and find the answers to the clues.  Students were highly engaged and had fun while participating in this activity.  To view pictures from this activity, click here.  

Fourth Grade Students Learn about Sound and Pitch sound and pitch

Students in Mrs. Lindsey Wright's science class has recently been studying sound and pitch.  As one of the activities, students brought their guitars to class and played different pitches to help further student understanding.  Students did an awesome job showing off their talent!  Click here to listen to these two students playing their guitars for demonstration.  

Third Grade Students are "Diggin' up Fossils"! fossils

Students in Ms. Jones' 3rd grade science class recently were learning about different types of fossils.  Their activity was called “Digging Up Fossils”.  They had to dig out the fossils (chocolate chips) from the cookie without breaking the fossil.  Students used toothpicks and q-tips as their “tools”.  After that, they recorded their findings.    Students enjoyed this activity as well as eating their fossils!  Click here to see photos from this activity.

Fourth grade students in Mrs. Stanfill's class were busy practicing two digit by two digit multiplication while using the live quiz learning game, Gimkit. Students earn money (points) by getting the correct answers.  To view more pictures, click here.  

WCES Anchored4Life Students Help with Christmas Clearing House a4l

WCES Anchored4Life students and advisor, Mrs. Laura Bartley, were busy today loading up all of the presents that the faculty and staff donated to the Sylvester/Worth County Chamber of Commerce Clearing House program. WCES is very happy to partner every year with the Chamber on this program to help meet the needs of Worth County children.

Georgia State Superintendent Richard Woods Visits WCES Mr. Woods' visit

Mr. Richard Woods, Georgia State Superintendent of Schools, recently visited WCES.  While here, Mr. Woods visited with several fourth grade classrooms and presented them with the book, "The Words That Built America".  This book contains the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, the Amendments to the Constitution, the Pledge of Allegiance, and Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech.  Students in fourth grade are presently studying the Constitution, so the timing was perfect!  Also joining Mr. Woods on this visit were Georgia State Representative, Mr. Bill Yearta, and WCSD Superintendent, Mr. Nehemiah Cummings.  To view more pictures, please click here.  

WCES Counselor and Students Participate in Anchored4Life Training a4l

WCES Anchored4Life recently held its first meeting with training for this program. Anchored4Life provides specialized training for school counselors and student leaders. Programs such as these not only provide comfort for new students but also empower students to take the lead in creating a welcoming environment. Way to go, WCES Anchored4Life!

The Worth County Health Dept. will be here Friday, Oct. 9th to give flu shots to students and faculty. Forms were sent home with students this past week. The cut off date will be Wednesday, Oct 1st. Thanks!
