WCMS Students Participate in Area 11 Special Olympics 2018

Special Olympics Area 11 Athletes

Fourteen WCMS students traveled to Americus on April 13th to compete in the 2018 Area 11 Special Olympics.  Students could compete in different events including a 100/10 Meter Run/Walk, Softball Throw, Long Jump, and relay races. Coach Mitchell, WCMS PE, provided students with equipment to practice for each event prior to competing.  All students enjoyed the competition which was evident by the smiles on their faces.  Other fun for the students included face painting, ring toss, bubbles, and more.  Athletes were rewarded with ribbons for 1st through 5th place.  Our students all brought home multiple ribbons and memories of a great day!

The athletes and their teachers wish to thank the entire school district and community for their support.  All schools lined the streets to cheer on the athletes in a RAMS send-off celebration.  Each student was presented with a bag full of goodies to help make the event even better.  Items for the bags were provided by Colony Bank, Chamber of Commerce, GA Peanut Festival, Sunbelt Ford of Sylvester, Piggly-Wiggly, WalMart, Savannah Crosby, and BOE staff.  A student's mother donated Gatorade for all athletes.  WCMS Cafeteria prepared the lunches for the day.  Mrs. Sevier, WCMS principal, provided extra waters, wipes, and chewy snack bars.

Thank you WALB10 and Fox31 for supporting our school district.
