Superintendent's Message

Superintendent of Schools

Welcome to the Worth County School District,

The Worth County School District invests in teacher and leader quality.  We give our students individual attention and maximize instructional time.  We are dedicated to the task of differentiating instruction and creating an environment where teachers and students are partners in learning.  We are constantly searching for innovative strategies for integration of technology into the curriculum.  We continue to find the best intervention strategies that support student learning.

Worth County applied and was awarded the Striving Reader’s Literacy Grant last February through the Georgia Department of Education.  We received 2.2 million dollars to spend on K-12 and birth to five in the area of literacy.  This funding will provide professional learning for teachers, technology and instructional materials for all students.  The birth – five grant allows the Worth County School District to include other institutions when providing professional for those who work with this age group child.  We have already begun intensive teacher training in the area of data analysis in order to improve instructional delivery for our students.  We are involved with the Southern Regional Technical College to advance the Worth County High School CTAE program.  We are also involved with local junior colleges so that our students are assisted with dual enrollment programs.

We have in place an educational framework that provides rigor in the early grades, ensures strong preparation in reading and mathematics, and gives students the foundation that they need in order to be successful as they advance through the district.

As educators, we will ensure that all students emerge from school ready for the extraordinary century that lies ahead.  We will work diligently to develop our student learning power in order for our students to become resilient and resourceful citizens.

We look forward to serving each of you during the upcoming 2016 - 2017 school year.

Winning for all students,

Kay S. Mathews
